CRM 4.0 Login failes 'key expired'

On our CRM 4.0 Dev environment we experienced the following behaviour:
When opening CRM this message appeared:

The key specified to compute a hash value is expired, only active keys are valid.  Expired Key : CrmKey...

After searching on the machine I found that the Async service did not run, I started it and this solved the issue.

Bingo!

Thanks for the post I am sure this saved me several hours.

FYI, is same issue, but restarting the Async service (full name Microsoft CRM Asynchronous Processing Service) didn't fix it until I did an iisreset. While that may be obvious to some, it wasn't to me! Smile

If you need to contact me, my email is typed backwards.

You are right, it may not be obvious to everybody and in my opinion when posting something like this, it is good to write the obvious...
Thanks for pointing this out!

Thx Henry, this did it for me. It was after a reboot that the SQL server wasn't yet 'alive' (seperate machines ofcourse) that the Microsoft CRM Asynchronous Processing Service gave an error and did not start.

Hi,
I was facing the same problem and solved it like this: on the server (remote dektop) do the following
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Tools >Microsoft.Crm.Tools.WRPCKeyRenewal.exe /R
This should be done by CRM on a scheduled base, but for some reason that was failing on my server. Executing it manually solved the issue. I hope this might help some other people.

Thanks for the alternative solution. When this issue appears in a production environment i! think your solution is the way to go!
An iisreset may not be what you want in that case.

Thank you! I'm so relieved it could be solved by something as simple as that. Like dp247 wrote, it saved me several hours of frustration.

Stop of  Microsoft CRM Asynchronous Processing Service is root cause of this problem. And start of service resolve the issue. Some time reboot of system also required if SQL server or IIS is also in error.
In my case, restart of service worked 99%.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Tools >Microsoft.Crm.Tools.WRPCKeyRenewal.exe /R"

This works. Thank you.

I am glad to see you where helped by the solution Hans Santens provided in his comment.
It is always better to avoid a restart of a service or even an iisreset.
Regards,
Henry

Thank you for the solution, just as you say Start the Microsoft CRM Asynchronous Processing Service, stop and start IIS ( iisreset -noforce ) and it is up-and-working again.

Do I need 2 CRM Server licenses if I want to run async services on a separate server?
